Valencia turned orange for a moment when “the queen” was allowed to step on the highest podium of a world championship for the fourth time. Therese, like the Japanese Orie Hida, now has 4 world titles.
Therese relatively easily qualified herself for the knockout phase in the tournament by winning in succession against Joke Breur (25-8 in 20 innings) and Johana Sandoval (25-8 in 21 innings).
The 8th final (knockout) was absolutely not a copy of “Zoersel”. Therese revanched herself and shook off Marianne Mortenson (30-14 in 28 innings). In the quarter finals, Therese played against Min A Kim (30-22 in 26 innings).
Sruong Pheavy succumbed to pressure in the semifinals and lagged far behind Therese (30-14 in 29). In the second semifinal, Orie Hida defeated Ayako Sakai 30-21 in just 25 innings. The final between Therese and Orie Hida started with a “wild” start by Hida, who quickly led with 0-6. However, Therese was able to turn the match quickly and went into the break with a 15-10. She eventually beat Orie Hida 30-21 in 27 innings.
